Welcome to my first weekly wednesday update!
This is going to be a regular feature on the crochet creature blog giving you all an insight into what crochet goodness I’ve been getting up to in the last week. It’ll be the first place I show off new ideas and will even include some sneaky previews of upcoming projects in the making. So what HAVE I been up to this week? Read on to find out.
I’m sure all my fellow crocheters will agree, there’s nothing quite like new yarn! This week at Crochet Creature HQ we had a very exciting delivery of all of this lovely Ricorumi Cotton DK yarn. This is one of my all time favourite yarns to work with and is perfect for amigurumi (keep your eyes peeled for my next blog post where I run through my top 5 yarns for amigurumi). There are SO many colours available and I think my stash probably includes most of them, hee hee! I have something very special planned for these new little balls of possibility so read on to get the lowdown on my latest venture.
Christmas is Coming!
It’s that time of year again when crafters worldwide are stitching, sticking and stuffing at a million miles an hour to get all their beautiful handmade gifts ready in time for the big day. I am of course talking about CHRISTMAS! This year has been pretty quiet for me in terms of last minute rushes. The only thing I was behind on were these baubles and this week I finally finished my last one. Hooray! Over the couple of months I’ve been making these, I’ve really fallen in love with the design and tried several festive colour combos as you can see. The middle design was my own choice and family members picked out the other colours for me. All the guests we’ve had so far have admired them on our 10ft tree and have placed their orders for next year. Looks like I’m not quite done with baubles after all!
TIP: If you want to make your own last minute baubles to add that homemade touch to your tree, simply have a look online for a pattern that takes your fancy. There are loads of beautiful free designs or you could make your own! I started with a free pattern online and adapted it to my own tastes. Cheap plastic baubles from the pound shop or DIY stores work best as you know they won’t smash if they fall off the tree (or get knocked by a vengeful cat)!
Making My Own Patterns!
So here it is, the big news for this week and that project I’m planning to use the Ricorumi yarn for…
I’m making my own patterns!
Just to the left here is a sneaky preview of my very first crochet pattern that I created this week and I’ve already started work on the next one. I hope to be releasing patterns for amigurumi projects as soon as possible and I’m working really hard on getting everything ready. It’s been my main focus for this week, making prototypes, taking pictures and writing up detailed instructions and things couldn’t be going better! I really am SO excited for this new crochet venture and I’m loving the freedom I have to create whatever I want. I hope you’ll stick around and wish me luck as I keep working to bring them to release. Perhaps you’ll have a go at making one when I’m done.
So that’s it crochet friends, my weeks work summed up in three little paragraphs. I hope you enjoyed the read and I wish you the best of luck with any last-minute Christmas gifts you may be panicking over! Don’t stress yourselves out, friends and relatives will be understanding if their wonderful one-off scarf takes a little while longer in Santa’s workshop. Let me know in the comments what you’ve been up to this week.
Speak soon, Emily.
